MOM, I love you…

Artful Crafting – Challenge 12 Mom

Hello :)

Hope life has been treating everyone well. Time sure flies by, its been a year since the Artful Crafting design team came into being, has been an amazing journey not only full of learning but of new loving friendships for which I am utterly grateful!

This new year the challenges are going to take a different turn, instead of being theme based they will be ‘mood-board’ based along with a theme :D

A lot of international design firms host mood-board challenges (Prima and Maja Design have great ones!) on their blogs and they are so much fun. For those of you who are not familiar with what a mood board is, it is ‘an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept.’ So for a mood board challenge you can use any part of it as inspiration for your project, could be the colors, the words, the pictures and you can of course combine parts too :)

Mother’s day is coming up in May, and so you all can start getting ready for it, the challenge theme was decided to be ‘something for MOM’. AND to go with the theme check out this gorgeous mood-board that Shereen Aftab came up with! :D Dont you just love it? The gorgeous florals, lace, tea, and soft feminine colors that fit perfect for spring too! Drop by the Artful Crafting blog and check out the details for Challenge 12 and view the amazing inspiration from the rest of the team too.

The kits this month included the absolutely gorgeous Prima Tales of You and Me papers which fit in perfectly with the board! And another fun part, all the team members received the same kits just with different stamp sets and mini ink cubes. SO you’ll get to see lots of inspiration with the same paper collection in line with the theme and the mood-board :)

I decided to get into gear for Mother’s day and so made two cards ‘for Mom’.

I started off by making two handmade roses (one for each card) using the sizzix tattered floral dies and two of the 6×6 papers from the collection. Since I had already decided what papers to use as the background of the cards I made the flowers so they stood out on each, one soft floral flower and the other darker neutral flower.

I wanted to use the lace heart doilies and distressed them with antique linen distress ink, java bean ranger dye ink and colorbox pink pigment ink just very lightly so they blended in better with the vintage papers and didnt stand out too much. The Vintage Emporium Alpha cling stamp set was part of a recent haul and so I wanted to use that to stamp the sentiment. I cut out hearts so they fit in the center of the doilies using the lighter dotted patterned paper and stamped ‘MOM’ to fit using black and brown inks respectively. I tried out the banner stamp and loved it too so decided to add that to the heart and stamped an ‘I love you’ greeting from another stamp set I had lying on hand.

I backed one of the doilies with the Marianne Design die-cuts included in the kit and added green embriodery floss to match and for the second I added the tag (after distressing it) and added the already distressed green ribbon from the kit.

The first card is a top folding one and I used the gorgeous full page floral paper ‘Contes de Toi et Moi’ for the background. The second card is a side folding one and the background for that is the ‘Jardin de Fleurs’ paper. For a pop of green and added interest I placed an inch strip of paper on the left side of the first card, which is inked with the shabby shutters ink and stamped with the MFT wood background in Java Bean ink.

I arranged the heart doilies onto each, with kraft strips from a die-cut using the spellbinders lattice die layered underneath them. Then i arranged the bigger handmade flowers and mulberry flowers to match along with some antique gold stamens and a die-cut using the mft flourish die for each of the cards.

I finished off the first card with a few diy enamel dots and the second one with a few sequins.

Will be looking forward to your views on which one of the two is better. Im really grateful to my regular comment-ers, means a lot that you take out time to appreciate and leave your valuable feedback. Just as a small token of appreciation i’ll be randomly (using random generator) picking two people at the end of April from the top 10 of you who have left maximum comments on all my posts till date and will be sending out two of my handmade thank you cards to them :D

Also Im entering both of these cards for the Pretty Paper Studio April Challenge, which has the theme Anything Goes.

Thank you once again!
Until next time,
Amna
